RAPPORT RICHÁRD GM

About our grandson, Richie

My son and his wife established an enterpreneurship in a remote city.

That time, Richie, age 5-6 spent a longer time together with us.

Every child does miss his parents, however  we did our best so that he could not feel it.

We were so pleased that we could manage it and spent an unforgettable time together.

When we were shopping in big department stores, we always did some window shopping as well, checking toys. He never claimed any of the toys in the shop. He was saying he played a little bit with them and that is all, no need to buy it. So was it. Even though, those that he liked very much we bought him at last.

We were playing a lot toghether. He mostly enjoyed building castles from big wooden cubes, cards or books and all other items. Castles engaged half of the room. We all hid spies in this fortress system without letting the other know its whereabout. Then we split soldiers and fought against each other. This revealed his good sense of logic and creativity.

At nights, we had three-round wrestling competion before reading fairy-tales.

This was always a challenging game, sometimes I won, sometimes Richie. We were then preparing for the next return-match, which was mostly won by Richie.

Once we were paying a visit to our son. When we were saying good-bye, Richie claimed he could not wrestle with anyone this time. Then, of course, we went upstairs and made up for what we had missed.

Later, aunt Joli called Richie that they would be organizing a running competition and uncle Tatix had seriously been training. Richie could seriously be motivated thereby. Any defeat just fired him up. Challenge has always been a good motivation which determination he keeps on having.

Another funny story about Richie. We managed to buy a relatively nice car. Richie spent his summer time holiday at us. He was still very young. We were to get into the car, when Richie added: „ Do not you think Tatix, it is degrading and sticky having an ugly, battered,worn-out gate, if you have a nice car like this?” It could either be painted or replaced.

He even at that age, had great eyes to things.

Richie is my best friend. We congretulate all his results and wish him all the best in the future.

We are very much proud of you and just like our famous Hungarian poet, Attila József, we have been boasting of our grandson to each and everyone, how talented he is.

Lots of kisses and things like this. And never forget to respect all your opponents!

Dear Father Rapport, my dear  Friend Tamás!

Let me share some of my impressions with you in relation with Richie.

Though I have known him for only a few years, I would highlight some of the things that had impressed me deeply throughout the years.

What really suprised me is his unbelievably fast adaptation to any activities he is involved.

It won’t take him long to learn anything, let it be sports, logical activities or any kind of intellectual activity, requiring brain work. It used to be one of the attributes the famous martial artist, Bruce Lee poccessed this amazing skill of adaptation.

I will never forget, playing with him table tennis, and struggling to death.

He was able to change the result of the game even at the very end.

Fighting like a pit-bull, sharp-minded as a snake, his logics is razor-blade sharp.

I would not say he is completely modest, but with time, I am sure he will change for the better.

I am sure he is real talent scout, with a fighting spirit most athletes can face around age 20.

All the best for all of you!

Richie’s intelligence above average dates back around age 3-4. As other kid the same age, he was not speaking properly, but any car passing by on the street he could quickly identify and provide all techical data. And never made any mistake. Up until today, I have not met anyone with the same abilities and skills among children, not even his family members, though they are very intelligent as well.

As he grew older, he became very persistent, whatever he was involved.

The word, giving up, did not belong to his vocabulary. By all means he wants to win, differentiated from all other opponents.

The very first steps of chess were shown Richie at around age 4 by me. Soon we played game(as proven by photos). Uncle needed all his effort to beat grandson in the battle in Szeged.

Playing chess was a game among games, was not favoured. So, for years, it has not been dealt with. Though I heard about Polgár method and Péter Lékó, but did not think of Richie becoming a chess player. Richie lived his life as a young kid in kindergarten, then he became pupil at school. Since I also like strategic games, Richie also played the famous Age of Empire, Warcraft and games like this. This time, Richie was the only child in the family, so we could spend and play more time with him. Those games, required memory, he was unbeatable. As schools years passed by, one day, Richie attained a grade 4, for he did not read the last exercise and therefore did not solve it either. We decided to improve his skill of concentration and started to play chess.

Success in chess was quick to come. Richie enjoyed playing chess and became his favorite hobby. He improved at an amazing pace and very soon beat all his schoolmates and others, having been playing for a long time. He was given hundreds of chess books and programs.

At this time, he was living in Sopron, and we were commuting to Szombathely to get trained by Attila Kiss. Chess was a game and nothing more. We had no feedback, whether Richie was talented or not. And expenses arose high. Richie could not deal with chess full-time, so we stopped it. I have not taken him back to Szombathely anymore, so chess practice was ceased.

Maybe this decision chaned Richie’s attitude. From that time on, he started carrying chessbooks to school and read/learnt them completely. It may have been fate that long after trying to join a chess team, he was finally invited by one of my friends from childhood, Emil Anke, who was later qualified as  GM.
